28 SFCBL Players Selected in 2019 MLB DraftThe 2019 Major League Baseball Draft called 28 current & alumni SFCBL players making for a total of 148 SFCBL players drafted in the last 6 seasons. Several of the players selected are currently playing in the SFCBL and will have until July 15th to decide to sign or return to school for another draft eligible season. The Delray Beach Lightning led the way with a total of 8 players drafted including: -Mack Chambers (Seminole State) 11th round Chicago Cubs. -Nelson Alvarez (University of South Florida) 13th round New York Yankees. -Kennie Taylor (Duke University) 14th round New York Mets. -Mason Doolittle (Palm Beach State) 18th round Washington Nationals. -Joe LaSorsa (St. John’s University) 18th round Tampa Bay Rays. -Jose Ulloa (ASA College Miami) 24th round Philadelphia Phillies. -Jordan Spicer (University of Central Florida) 24th round Colorado Rockies. -Vincent Bianchi (St. John’s University) 35th round LA Angels. The SFCBL’s #1 2019 draft prospect via Baseball America Keegan Collett (Florida Gulf Coast University) was selected in the 35th by the San Diego Padres and former SFCBL All-Star Luis Guerrero (Miami-Dade College) who was also a top draft prospect in 2017 was selected in the 8th round by the Houston Astros. Former Florida Pokers LHP Matt Cronin (University of Arkansas) was selected in the 4th round by the Washington Nationals after an excellent season striking out 40 batters with a 2.00 ERA in 27 innings pitched. Former SFCBL All-Star and Florida Pokers outfielder Garrett Hiott (Eckerd College) was selected in the 25th round by the Tampa Bay Rays after an excellent 2019 season in the Sunshine State Conference hitting .358 with 11 doubles, 3 triples and 6 home runs. Current Palm Beach Diamond Ducks RHP Matthew Stil (Rowan College at Gloucester) was selected in the 21st round by the Kansas City Royals and showed his electric stuff Friday night throwing against the Pompano Beach Clippers. Former Pompano Beach Clippers OF and SFCBL All-Star Yorvis Torrealba (University of Tampa) was selected in the 20th round by the Colorado Rockies after being named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year and University of Tampa teammate Sammy Peralta who is also former SFCBL All-Star was selected in the 18th round by the Chicago White Sox. Matthew Corlew (Chipola College) currently of the Palm Beach Xtreme was selected in the 23rd round by the LA Angels and 2018 SFCBL draft prospect Bradley Hanner (Patrick Henry C.C.) was selected in the 21st round by the Minnesota Twins.
